Hi friends! Instead of a homestead update this week, I want to tell you all about my fun weekend out and about. I’ve been so busy working since I moved back north that I haven’t had a chance to really sit back and relax. But boy, did I change all that this past weekend. Let’s chat about it, shall we? But fair warning–this post is picture heavy!! I couldn’t stop myself. LOL.

a movie

First up, was the movie Downton Abbey: A New Era. It was so good friends!! I loved everything about it. I didn’t see the first movie, but after seeing the newest one on Friday, my roommate and I decided to watch it so I checked it out from the library, We’ll make a night of it soon, complete with homemade popcorn!!

There are plans for other movies too. I missed going to the movies. It’s been a really long time since I’ve sat in a theater with popcorn and a soda and just had 2 hours of uninterrupted time to enjoy a movie. And there are a lot of good ones coming to the little movie theater in my town. Anyway, I’m sure to keep you posted on what movies we watch and what I thought about them!

sheep and goats

The real fun (not that the rest of the weekend wasn’t fun) was the trip to Grahamsville to visit some sheep and goats. And not just sheep and goats but lambs and baby goats! Oh my goodness, y’all. They are so cute. My roommate (who owns the sheep farm) is thinking of adding some new sheep to her herd. I had the day day off so she asked if I wanted to go. I couldn’t resist. The area we went to is so beautiful. The farm is on a dead end street on the side of a mountain. With an old farmhouse. I couldn’t think of a better setting!

And now I want Nubian goats (they’re the breed with those ears!)! Just look at those ears! There are 4 male, wethered goats that are for sale. Sigh. Maybe one day I’ll be in a place where I can have some goats. Just think of all the possibilities if I had a breeding herd–goat cheese, goat’s milk soap, and just goats in general!! Baby goats! Oh my! I’ll have to put it on my list of things for the future since I get to plan my own future now. YAY!

time out

And then there was the night out with a girlfriend. We started by having a glass of wine at the local wine shop and then ended up at a new restaurant in town. My town is so small but it has several restaurants/bars. So a new one is always a chance to get out and try something new. We had a good time and even made friends with the waitress!! How fun is that? I’m trying to get out more and more now that I’m not working 5 jobs. All work and no play makes for a very dull life, don’t you think?

tractor parade

And to round out the weekend, there was a pancake breakfast at the local fire department along with a tractor parade. If you’ve been around long enough, you’ve probably heard me talk about the tractor parade (although now that I’m thinking about it, maybe that was just on social media. Anyway, I used to go to the tractor parade a lot more. I’m glad that I’m back in the town where it’s held. It’s a pretty big deal. LOL). Everyone brings their tractor to town and they get a turn around town to show it off. Some decorate their tractors. Other’s bring their tractor straight from the fields. No matter what shape or size, it’s a lot of fun for everyone! The day was cold which is different from some years where it’s so HOT! It was a welcome relief. If you’ve never been to the tractor parade, I highly recommend it.

I actually wore my overalls to the parade. I thought that was pretty fitting. In fact, as I was walking down the sidewalk there was a young gentleman walking in front of me with his overalls on. He turned around and said ‘I like your overalls.’. I said ‘likewise. I noticed you got the memo’. HEHE. It was cute. And that last picture above? Of the combine tractor? It’s the grand finale each year at the parade. And it lives just down the road from me. We followed it home after the parade!

That’s it friends! Such a fun filled weekend. I’ll be back soon with tales of chickens and gardens and all the other fun things. Plus some recipes and other tidbits to homesteading life! Life is good friends. I hope it is for you too.

’til next time
