Hi there friends! I’ve got a special treat for you today. If you read this post, you’ll know that I haven’t been trick-or-treating in years. I don’t really decorate for Halloween-more for fall with some Halloween stuff thrown in. But I love holidays and I love decorating and wanted to do a little something this year so I decided to make the nephews some goodie baskets!

Now, if you know me and have been around here for any length of time, you’ll know that I try to stick to a budget. Lately, with the move and everything being up in the air, I haven’t really had a budget per se. So I didn’t really stick to any set budget for the goodie baskets, other than ‘don’t spend a ton of money’! LOL. (I did set up a cash spending budget but I’m not sure how it’s going. More details on that in a future post. The funds from these gift baskets did come out of that budget). I knew I wanted some baskets to put everything in-one for each nephew and then one combined one for all 3 to share. And I wanted cute baskets that their Mom could reuse if she wanted.

So, what did I buy and what was the cost break down?
1. baskets-4 baskets total for a total cost of $12
2. Candy and fillers (confetti, Halloween themed rings, crinkle paper, bags for candy, etc.): $24
3. Root beer: $7
4. Other extra gifts for each nephew: $15
Total spent: $58

so that’s about $15 per basket (total of 4 baskets-one for each nephew plus one for all three to share). I also printed off these gift tags and the scavenger hunt for the two littlest to take along with them when they trick-or-treated (of course they promptly forgot about them because hello! CANDY!). My parents also gave some candy to help fill in around everything so I didn’t count that in the total spent for the baskets. I also thrifted the baskets and then shopped at big box stores for the fillers, candy, and root beer. In the future, I’d like to plan ahead a little more and avoid big box stores if possible.

It was fun and I was happy to tag along with them when they went trick-or-treating. I hope to do more gift baskets and such in the future. This was just the tip of the iceberg. LOL.

’til next time
