Homestead Update #26
Hello again friends! Boy do I have a treat for you this week! One of the major things on my 'to-do' list was to sort some photos that have been on my desktop for a couple of months now. I'm usually better about sorting them into folders once I've finished using them. But with my little hiatus that I took in order to sort out my life and deal with all the icky stuff happening, I didn't get a chance to use the photos nor sort them. BUT. Last week I managed to get them all sorted. What I discovered though was that I hadn't used a ton of photos. So over the course of the next few days or weeks or whatever, I'm going to share those photos with you. I'll still keep you posted on what's been happening over the past week, but I'd also like to document some of the other things that happened during that period were I was not writing about life. It's all the good stuff, I promise! Let's get busy, shall we?
The garden and other random stuff
Most of these pictures were taken when I first purchased my new-to-me Nikon d610. If you recall, it was my first camera purchased specifically for me. I'd been using the Mister's cameras until I could determine if photography was something I was going to really like and stick with. I'm happy to report that it's something I LOVE! But I was practicing using the full frame camera. Needless to say, I just love the camera. I start my first photography course this week and I'm very excited about that!
Random Thoughts
Again. some of these are photos from when I first got my camera. Others are just things that I like and make me smile, like the cast iron pot and the Cape May IPA. Can a beer can be anymore me? I think the tractor picture is one of the last times I was on the tractor. Sadly, my tractor driving days are over. I'll miss that tractor!
That skirt though! I love that skirt! It's so cute and I feel so good when I wear it! It might be my Christmas skirt this year. I think I can pair it with a sweater and boots and make it super cute.
The one picture of the lake (the big one on the top right) was a place I hung out during my last few weeks on the homestead. It was a nice reprieve from everything that was happening. I would take some books or magazines, fill a cooler with food and snacks, and just sit on the beach for a few hours. There wasn't any cell phone service there so I was completely by myself while there. I am the type of person who recharges by being by myself and this spot was perfect for that!
The Business End of Things
Moat of these pictures are from my last class at North Branch Inn. That was a great class! We made mozzarella and then used it on homemade pizza! So fun! I also have a snapshot from my natural dyeing class from May. And one of my articles that I wrote for the River Reporter (one of the newspapers from my little town that I'm moving to in January). I'm not sure what's in store for my business in the future (I haven't quite figured that out yet), but boy, it sure is nice looking back at all I've accomplished with it thus far.
The Rest of the Story
Let's stop here with the older pictures and I'll give you a brief rundown of the past week! I started working remotely for the inn! That's been nice. We're working on a social media plan and it's been fun! I can't wait to share that with you all. I've included a picture of the inn here. Isn't she just beautiful?!?!
I've been working on knitting my socks. I'm almost finished with them! I just need to turn the heels and then finish the foot of the socks (I was supposed to go to knitting class last week but rescheduled). I should be finished with them by next week. I've been enjoying watching TV and knitting after dinner every night. That's something I haven't done in a long time. I've been watching the newest seasons of Little People, Big World, but I also just discovered a new show, Inn the Works. It's really good. I got a free 6-month subscription to Discovery+ when I upgraded my cell phone plan. I've really enjoyed that so far!
I treated myself to a work session at a local coffee shop. Now that I'm working remotely, I'll be doing that about once per week. There's a really cute (and good) coffee shop near my parent's house. I just have to remember that they don't have food. So I need to eat before I go! haha.
I also joined Noom. I have a friend who has been very successful with it. She loves it and says it was a game changer for her. She gave me a discount code so I'mma gonna give it my best. It's been the most eye opening for how many calories I'm consuming...even when I'm eating healthy! Whoa!
I ordered this planner for myself. I love a good planner and this one is especially good. I think it's going to help me keep track of everything and be accountable to my values, plans, and budget. I want to get a couple of smaller notebooks that I can keep in the back pocket for all those notes I take. But right now I have a different (and equally cute, but too big to fit in there) notebook that I'm using for note taking.
I got my hair cut. Friends. I hate it. I really do. It's not the stylists' fault. It's mine. I hate having short hair. I don't know why I insist on cutting my hair off. Every time I do it, I hate it. I know, it's just hair. It will grow and I'm liking it more and more each day. But remind me to NEVER cut my hair short again. Shoulder length hair works best for me, especially if I keep it trimmed up and in good shape. Sigh.
And I'll end here for today--I had the best conversations with some friends and my brother (separately though. haha) this past weekend. Those conversations really helped. I am feeling better. Feeling stronger. Feeling ready to conquer the world! I did actually conquer a fear this past weekend. Anyway, those conversations and doing something that I've long been afraid of, have really helped me see that it's not so bad and that I am okay!
'til next time
