The Hamptons 2019
I finally (finally!) have a chance to update y'all on our trip to the Hamptons. We go every year in June for a couple of days. This year we were able to eek out 5 days to be there. June is usually still a busy time for the fishing lodge so getting away after a very busy spring was nice. June is also a good time to be in the Hamptons. People haven't flocked to the island yet. Summer vacas are just starting. Of course we don't really 'do' the Hamptons. I mean, it's there. You know the posh crowd is just around the corner. But we do very low key things--visit farm stands, fish, swim in the pool. Well, the Mister fishes. I sit by the pool (or swim). But this year we did things a little differently. This year the weather wasn't so nice (that was right before our current heat wave hit). It was rainy, overcast, and not very warm. So we only got one good pool day in but I finally ventured out from the pool long enough to see some sites.
The first day we got there we went to the beach. The Mister fished. I walked the beach and collected shells (one of my favorite things to do!). There were lots and lots of shells. I totally didn't even take my phone, let alone my camera. I was intend on walking so I wasn't even thinking about pictures. There were signs everywhere about the Piping Plovers nesting. And boy, have you ever seen a nesting Plover? They are territorial! I was walking along the beach, near the water, minding my own business (and no where near their nests) when they started dive bombing me!!
I did end up walking a lot this trip. I would set out in the AM and walk around the neighborhood. It was nice. Usually I swim a lot but since there wasn't much swimming I decided to hoof it. We also cooked a lot. There was one day where we went into Sag Harbor and visited the Whaling Museum. It was very small. I mean very small! But it had a lot of artifacts about whaling on Long Island. Look at those whale vertebrae up there! As you can probably tell the museum is in the old Masonic Temple. As we were leaving, the museum volunteer told me to look up. What a view! Do you see what I mean?
I did notice that last year the hydrangeas were all in bloom and this year the roses were just coming into their glory. But we were there a week later last year. And I couldn't help take pictures of the harbor. That pop of orange against that moody sky and the white boats just spoke to me! And who can forget the quintessential Land Rover? Parked in just the right spot! And look closely at the one pic with the sleek black Cadillac-looking boat. It was so cool!
I also found a coffee shop in Sag Harbor (there are only a couple) that serves a Honey Lavender Latte. And can I just say 'Yum'? I went there twice (believe it or not, I got out of the house twice this trip!). See this post for what my trips normally look like. Now you see what I'm talking about!
It was a good trip. I had to work on my classes while I was there but I did that in between activities and while it rained. It was good. I felt good after having a little time away from the homestead. And it's been a whirlwind since we got back. I'll be back soon with lots of other updates from around the homestead (a new pie might be involved).
