Just a few of the good things that have been making the rounds on the homestead lately:
- Puzzles! I’ve worked a few puzzles lately, mostly with the help of a friend. The one in the second picture was hard! It took us two days to finish it. We were glad to be done with it. I now have this one I want to work but want to work it with a friend because it looks hard. And I was just gifted this one. It’s so dreamy!
- Books! Y’all know how much I love books. I’ve read the newest book by Carl Hiaasen. I love his writing. I can’t get enough. I also bought the book Cooking Scrappy. It’s all about how to use all (or most) parts of everything, like the seeds from squash or stems from the leafy greens. I can’t wait to dive into it!
- Coffee! Let me say it again friends! COFFEE!! So. I really like french press coffee but I broke my last press a long time ago. So when the Mister asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and knowing we were on a strict budget this year, I decided on some fancy coffee beans and a french press. But getting the press was quite the adventure! It took us on a 75 mile round trip only to find what I was looking for back in the town where we live! We did find some presses along the way but they were $85 and $120 each! YIKES! I did end up getting a locally roasted coffee bean and then two other fancy beans. The local one is from Moka Origins. I chose the Uganda bean since I like a dark roast coffee. And I started watching Dangerous Grounds (again, for the hundredth time) while I was doing some holiday knitting so it seemed appropriate, plus I’ve been wanting to try the Moka coffee for some time and it did not disappoint.
That’s it for this week! Join me weekly on Mondays as I share with you what’s making the ‘good things’ list!
’til next time

Hi Kristin – I always think, I should buy / do a nice big puzzle, I’d probably love it! And then I never buy one… I love the primitive village one. Do you ever “shellac them” and then hang them as art? I remember seeing folks do that once or twice.
Glad you are getting some down time to relax! It’s so necessary! 😀

Puzzles are so much fun! I especially love doing them with a friend, but also enjoy the solitude of trying to find the right pieces. I grew up working puzzles. My dad always had one out on the card table. I think working puzzles helps you with real life situations and finding solutions. I also think it’s why I’m much better at packing (boxes, the car, etc.) than the Mister. I always tell him that he didn’t work puzzles growing up so he doesn’t know how to pack the car. Hehe.
I don’t shellac them though. I pass the puzzles along to friends (or keep the ones that are really meaningful to me). My library in town also has a puzzle exchange.
And the primitive village one is Charles Wysocki. Apparently he is a big deal in the puzzle world. Who knew?
