I’ve owned this book for quite a few years now and believe it or not, I’ve never read it. Until now. I’m not even sure where I bought it but I can guess the reason was that I didn’t know anything about knitting or yarn! So when I decided to start reviewing homesteading books on the blog, this was one of the first books I picked up! I’m glad I did.

This book, The Knitter’s Book of Yarnis written by Clara Parkes, who apparently is very well known in the knitting world. I know. I live under a rock. I get it. She has written several books on yarn and knitting and if those books are anything like this one, they will be valuable resources for the knitter homesteader.

I liked this book. It is full of information. She explains the different kinds of yarn, what the yarn is made from, how it’s made, the differences in plys, and also gives different knitting patterns for each kind of yarn. It’s simply amazing. I read this book from cover to cover and highlighted lots of information. I don’t think I’ll ever remember all that information but I will keep this book on my shelf as a reference.

There is even a section in the back that covers everything from caring for your yarn to determining what weight of yarn you have to a glossary of knitting terms. This book is a must have for every knitter from beginner to advanced. I wish I’d read this book sooner but I think it came at the most appropriate time for me-when I’m trying to up my knitting game!

Bottom line: if you are a knitter or wanna be knitter, go check this book out. You won’t be sorry!
